Mark Goodier Announced as New Host of BBC Radio 2's Pick of the Pops
Legendary Broadcaster to Take Over from Late Steve Wright
BBC Radio 2 has announced that renowned broadcaster Mark Goodier will be the new host of its long-running music countdown show, Pick of the Pops. The show, which has been a staple of the station's Saturday and Sunday lineup for over 50 years, has been hosted by the late Steve Wright since 1999.
A Familiar Voice
Goodier is no stranger to Radio 2 listeners, having hosted the station's morning show, The Mark Goodier Breakfast Show, from 1995 to 2001. He also briefly hosted the Pick of the Pops show in 2016 following the departure of Tony Blackburn.
The seasoned broadcaster expressed his excitement about his new role, saying, "I'm thrilled to be back with the Pick of the Pops family. It's such a legendary show, and I can't wait to play the best pop hits for our listeners every weekend."
A Changing Landscape
Goodier's appointment comes amidst significant changes in the radio industry. As more and more people turn to streaming services for their music, traditional radio stations have had to adapt to evolving listening habits.
Despite these challenges, Radio 2 remains one of the most popular stations in the UK, and Pick of the Pops continues to attract a loyal audience of listeners who tune in for its nostalgic blend of classic hits and new releases.
Goodier's First Show
Goodier's first show as host of Pick of the Pops will be on Saturday, March 11, 2023, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. The show will feature a special tribute to Steve Wright, who passed away in February 2023.
Listeners can tune in to Radio 2 on FM, DAB, or online at www.bbc.co.uk/radio2 to hear Mark Goodier's highly anticipated debut as host of Pick of the Pops.
