OJ Simpson, NFL Star and Actor, Dies at 76
American football legend and actor OJ Simpson, known for his highly publicized 1995 murder trial, has passed away at the age of 76.
Simpson's storied career and life were marred by tragedy in 1994 when his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend Ronald Goldman were brutally murdered. Simpson was sensationally acquitted in the subsequent trial, which was dubbed the Trial of the Century by U.S. media.
Before his controversial relationship with Brown, Simpson was married to his first wife, Marguerite Whitley, from 1967 to 1979. Simpson and Brown married in 1985 and had two children together: Sydney and Justin. The couple's relationship was marked by domestic violence allegations, culminating in their divorce in 1992.
Following his acquittal in the murder trial, Simpson faced civil liability for the deaths of Brown and Goldman. He was found liable for wrongful death in a civil lawsuit and ordered to pay US$33.5 million in damages to the families of the victims.
Simpson's later years were spent in relative obscurity, with the former football star and broadcaster living in Florida. He is survived by his four children, Arnelle, Jason, Sydney, and Justin Simpson, as well as three grandchildren.
